In what looks like a slip of the tongue Verizon has inadvertently confirmed that Apple’s new iPhone 5 will indeed be a dual-mode device supporting both CDMS and GSm networks, making it a truly “Global Device”.
The new iPhone 5 details were leaked by Verizon during a conference call while discussing iPhone 4 sales. Currently iPhone 4 devices which are on the Verizon network are CDMA-only.
There have already been a number of rumours regards the specifications of the new iPhone 5, but Verizons remarks do corroborate claims that Apple would be using the Qualcomm chip like those it used in the CDMA iPhone 4 and the iPad 2 to connect to both networks.
The new iPhone 5 is expected to ship sometime in September, but nothing officially has been confirmed by Apple. Who are probably on the phone to Verizon expressing their displeasure at Verizon disclosing hardware specification of their new iPhone 5 before any official announcement.
