According to a recent report by the FT, Apple is ‘aggressively’ hiring new employees to work on their Apple iWatch project, and the device is expected to launch in late 2014.
We had previously heard that the Apple iWatch may launch this year, although it looks like we may have to wait until next year, as according to the FT report Apple still has a few issues to iron out with the iWatch design.

We have already seen Apple file a number of trademarks in various countries for the Apple iWatch name, so it is all but confirmed that this is what the device will be called.
Features and Functionality
The Apple iWatch is rumored to be a communicator device for Apple’s iOS devices, like the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. The device is expected to be able to receive emails, texts, and possibly be used to make calls on your iPhone. This would make the iWatch a highly versatile accessory, integrating seamlessly with the Apple ecosystem.
In addition to communication features, the iWatch is also expected to include health and fitness tracking capabilities. This could involve monitoring heart rate, tracking steps, and even providing insights into sleep patterns. Given Apple’s focus on health with their Health app and the introduction of HealthKit, these features seem like a natural extension.
Design and Development Challenges
One of the reasons for the delayed launch appears to be the complexity of the iWatch’s design. Apple is known for its meticulous attention to detail and high standards for product quality. Ensuring that the iWatch meets these standards while incorporating advanced technology is no small feat. Reports suggest that Apple is working on perfecting the battery life, as a smartwatch with poor battery performance would be a significant drawback.
Moreover, the design of the iWatch is expected to be sleek and stylish, aligning with Apple’s reputation for creating aesthetically pleasing products. The company has reportedly been experimenting with various materials and form factors to achieve the perfect balance between functionality and design.

Market Expectations and Competition
The smartwatch market is becoming increasingly competitive, with several major tech companies already having launched their own devices. Samsung, for instance, has its Galaxy Gear line, and Google has been pushing its Wear OS platform. Apple’s entry into this market is highly anticipated, and the iWatch is expected to set new standards in terms of integration, functionality, and design.
Given Apple’s track record with products like the iPhone and iPad, expectations are high. The company has a history of entering established markets and revolutionizing them with innovative features and superior user experience. The iWatch is expected to follow this trend, offering unique features that set it apart from existing smartwatches.
