According to a new report by Strategy Analytics, Xiaomi is now the world’s third largest smartphone maker behind Samsung and Apple.
Samsung shipped a total of 79.2 million smartphones in quarter three 2014, this is down from 88.4 million for the same quarter last year.
Apple shipped a total of 39.3 million smartphones, which is up from 33.8 million handsets in the same quarter last year. Xiaomi has seen a significant increase in their handsets sales since Q3 of 2013, last year in this quarter the company sold 5.2 million handsets, and in Q3 2014 they sold 18.0 million devices.
LG and Huawei have also seen increases over last year, with LG selling 16.8 million devices in Q34 and Huawei 16.5 million devices in quarter three.
Samsung has seen their overall share of the smartphone market drop from 35 percent to 24.7 percent, Apple has also seen a small drop from 13.4 percent to 13.3 percent.
Overall smartphone sales for the quarter grew 27 percent, with a total of 320.4 million smartphones shipped for quarter three of 2014, you can find out more details at the link below.
