Apple [AAPL] is holding an iPhone 4 press conference later today, where they will finally make a statement on the iPhone 4 reception issues. We have no idea exactly what Apple will have to say as yet and whether it will be enough to satisfy iPhone 4 owners.
Apple have a couple of options, they could issue a full product recall and exchange the iPhone 4’s that have been affected with the signal issues, this is probably the most unlikely outcome of today’s press event, as it could end up costing Apple around $1.5 billion.
What Apple needs to do is acknowledge that there is actually a problem, and apologize to its customers, if Apple does this and then offers a solution to the problem this should satisfy the majority of iPhone 4 owners.
We are not expecting Apple to be able to offer a fix to the problem via a software update, we have already had an update in the form of iOS 4.0.1 which has changed the way the cellular signal is displayed but has not solved the reception issues.
If Apple are smart, they will offer iPhone 4 owners a couple of options, one would be a full refund for customers who no longer want the iPhone 4 because of the reception issues, they could then offer the remaining customers a free bumper case.
This would solve the problem, people who don’t want to keep they iPhone 4 can get their money back, people who want to keep it get a free bumper case which they can use on their iPhone 4 without having the reception issues.
What do you guys think, what would you like to see Apple do to solve the iPhone 4 reception issues, leave a comment and let us know.
