Verizon Communications Inc. has today announced the acquisition of Jaunt XR software, technology, and certain other assets, for an undisclosed amount. Jaunt is a development company in the field of machine learning and computer vision, and recently launched its XR Cast technology, enabling the easy volumetric capture and publishing of humans in augmented reality.
“The first of its kind in the market, our technology is highly portable and creates high-quality AR assets in real-time that can be streamed to mobile devices and shared on social media. With XR Cast there are no massive stages that require travel to out of the way locations. No long processing times. We are the first and leading portable volumetric capture solution available in the market. XR Cast is our first product…but there’s more to come. We believe that we are just scratching the surface of what is possible when it comes to bringing humans into AR. At Jaunt we are leading the charge to develop the next generation of AR content.”
Jaunt will be assisting Verizon with the transition of select portions of the software and technology for a brief period of time. “We are thrilled with Verizon’s acquisition of Jaunt’s technology,” said Mitzi Reaugh, President & CEO of Jaunt XR. “The Jaunt team has built leading-edge software and we are excited for its next chapter with Verizon.”
