VW has teamed up with EV West to create a very cool 1972 VW Bus that has the inside out of a modern e-Golf electric car. At a glance, the VW bus looks like any vintage restoration you may run across. The compact nature of the e-Golf powertrain meant hat no exterior mods were needed for the conversion.
The EV swap also gives the Bus a lot more power than it came from the factory with. The factory gas engine makes about 60hp, and the EV powertrain makes 134hp. The electric motor uses a single-speed transmission.
The driving range for the ride is about 125 miles per charge. The shift lever inside the van now puts it into park, reverse, neutral, drive, or B for brake regeneration.
