Valve, a company known for nothing if not its forward-looking nature is now offering… subscription plans? Indeed, developers on Valve’s service will now be able to charge subscription fees, beginning with Darkfall Unholy Wars, the first game to use the service.
While subscription games on Steam are nothing new, Valve has now for the first time taken over the payments side as well. Despite the odd timing, seeing how subscription games are mostly going the way of the dodo, Valve insists that new games featuring subscriptions are on their way. At the very least, the service offers the possibility of renewing and most importantly cancelling any such commitments at any time.
