A team of developers based in Spain has created a new affordable and portable underwater drone, specifically designed to enable you to explore the world under the waves without getting wet. Available to back from €899 with worldwide shipping available, the Sibiu Nano underwater robot offers a tethered system that allows you to explore up to 1000m away from your location to a depth of 100m.
Launched via Indiegogo this week the development team need to raise €20,000 over the next month to make the jump into production. Features of the underwater drone include six thrusters to provide maximum manoeuvrability while under the water, automatic depth hold, automatic heading control, swappable battery as well as depth, temperature and heading sensors. Together with a camera that is capable of providing full HD video that can be live streamed directly to the surface.
The Sibiu Nano underwater drone is controlled by open source software, and all hardware is also open source allowing you to easily modify or upgrade your system whenever required, or to push its capabilities even further.
