We are still waiting for Samsung to unveil some official pricing for the Samsung Galaxy Tab Android tablet and have seen a range of different prices from various retailers.
Now the Galaxy Tab has turned up on the website and is available to pre-order for £529.99 without having to sign up to a data contract.
I think this is the cheapest price we have seen so far for the SIM free version, and as it is available for actual pre-order we suspect this could be the final retail price. Have a look and our article on Android vs iPhone to see which smartphone and mobile platform is best for you.
Features and Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy Tab is packed with a variety of features that make it a strong contender in the tablet market. It boasts a 7-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, providing clear and vibrant visuals. The device is powered by a 1GHz Cortex-A8 processor, ensuring smooth performance for everyday tasks and multimedia consumption. Additionally, it comes with 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB via a microSD card, giving users ample space for apps, photos, and videos.
One of the standout features of the Galaxy Tab is its dual cameras. The rear camera is a 3.2-megapixel shooter with autofocus and LED flash, capable of capturing decent photos and videos. The front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera is perfect for video calls and selfies. The tablet also supports 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, and GPS, making it a versatile device for both work and play.
Comparing the Galaxy Tab to Other Tablets
When comparing the Samsung Galaxy Tab to other tablets on the market, it’s important to consider its unique selling points. For instance, the Galaxy Tab’s compact 7-inch form factor makes it more portable than larger tablets like the Apple iPad, which has a 9.7-inch display. This smaller size makes the Galaxy Tab easier to hold and use with one hand, making it ideal for reading e-books, browsing the web, or watching videos on the go.
Another advantage of the Galaxy Tab is its support for Adobe Flash, which allows users to view Flash-based content on websites. This is a feature that was notably absent from the iPad at the time, giving the Galaxy Tab an edge for users who frequently visit sites with Flash content.
The Android operating system also provides a level of customization and flexibility that is not available on iOS devices. Users can personalize their home screens with widgets, shortcuts, and live wallpapers, creating a more tailored user experience. Additionally, the Android Market (now Google Play Store) offers a wide range of apps and games, many of which are free or available at a lower cost compared to their iOS counterparts.
Despite these advantages, the Galaxy Tab does face stiff competition from other Android tablets and the iPad. The iPad’s larger screen and robust app ecosystem make it a popular choice for many users, while other Android tablets may offer similar features at a lower price point. However, the Galaxy Tab’s combination of portability, performance, and features make it a compelling option for those in the market for a new tablet.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a versatile and feature-rich tablet that offers a strong alternative to other devices on the market. Its competitive pricing, combined with its impressive specifications and unique features, make it a worthy contender in the tablet space. Whether you’re looking for a device for work, entertainment, or staying connected on the go, the Galaxy Tab is definitely worth considering.
