Whilst we are waiting to find out about the new Samsung Galaxy S9, we have some details on a new budget smartphone from the company, the Samsung Galaxy J4.
The Samsung Galaxy J4 recently appeared in some benchmarks and this has revealed some of the specifications on this new budget Android device.
Specifications and Performance
The handset recently turned up on the Geekbench database and the device will come with Android 8.0 Oreo and will feature a quad-core 1.4GHz processor and 2GB of RAM. The processor is rumored to be a Samsung Exynos 7570. This chipset is designed to provide a balance between performance and power efficiency, making it suitable for budget devices. The Exynos 7570 is built on a 14nm process, which is quite efficient for a budget phone, ensuring that users get a decent performance without draining the battery too quickly.
In terms of storage, while the benchmark did not reveal specific details, it is expected that the Galaxy J4 will come with at least 16GB of internal storage, expandable via a microSD card slot. This would allow users to store more apps, photos, and videos without worrying about running out of space.
Design and Display
Although the benchmarks did not provide information on the design and display, based on Samsung’s previous budget models, the Galaxy J4 is likely to feature a plastic body with a removable back cover. This design choice is common in budget smartphones as it helps keep costs down while still providing a durable and functional device.
The display is expected to be around 5 inches with a resolution of 720p. While this may not be as sharp as the displays on higher-end models, it should be sufficient for everyday tasks such as browsing the web, watching videos, and using social media. Samsung’s budget phones often include features like an AMOLED display, which offers vibrant colors and deep blacks, enhancing the overall viewing experience.
Camera and Additional Features
In terms of the camera, the Galaxy J4 is likely to feature an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. These specifications are typical for budget smartphones and should be adequate for casual photography and video calls. Samsung may also include some of its camera software features, such as HDR and panorama mode, to enhance the photography experience.
Other features that are expected to be included in the Galaxy J4 are a 3.5mm headphone jack, a micro-USB port for charging and data transfer, and a removable battery. The removable battery is a feature that many users appreciate as it allows for easy replacement and extended device lifespan.
Market Competition and Release
Samsung is hoping that the Galaxy J4 will help the company compete with other budget smartphone companies. Samsung has apparently had a lot of competition on budget devices from Chinese smartphone makers. Brands like Xiaomi, Huawei, and Oppo have been offering feature-rich budget smartphones at competitive prices, making it challenging for Samsung to maintain its market share in this segment.
As yet there are no details on exactly when the new Galaxy J4 smartphone will be announced, it is not clear as yet on whether it will be made official at Mobile World Congress. However, given the timing of the benchmarks, it is likely that an official announcement will be made soon. Samsung may choose to launch the Galaxy J4 alongside other budget models in the Galaxy J series, providing consumers with a range of options to choose from.
The Samsung Galaxy J4 appears to be a promising budget smartphone with a good balance of performance, features, and affordability. It will be interesting to see how it fares against the competition and whether it can help Samsung regain its footing in the budget smartphone market.
