We have been hearing lots of rumors about the Samsung foldable smartphone over the last few months. The last thing we heard was that the launch of the handset has been delayed until 2019.
Samsung had originally planned to launch the handset this year, we then heard that it would not launch until next year, things may now have changed. Samsung recently announced their earnings for Q4 of 2017 and in the report they mention foldable OLED displays.
Samsung was taking about its display division in the report and now products that are launching this year, this includes ‘foldable panels’. Samsung will makes these panels available for other manufacturers this year, the company will also use these panels in their own devices.
The company also mentions in the press release that its smartphone division will differentiate itself by using high end technology in its new devices ‘such as foldable OLED displays’. This suggests that Samsung is looking to launch their device this year.
We already know that Samsung has a working prototype of its foldable smartphone, the device was shown of behind closed doors to Samsung’s partners at CES earlier this month.
The handset is rumored to come with a 7.3 inch display which can be folded in half, unfortunately those are the only details we have about the device so far. If the Samsung Foldable smartphone does launch this year then it will probably be some time around the end of the year.
