RunKeeper has launched a new Pebble smartphone application this week, which is compatible with both iOS and Android devices, and has been designed to turn your Pebble smartwatch into a personal trainer.
The RunKeeper application enables you to control the smartphone apps from your Pebble, so you can leave your phone in your pocket during a workout. The Pebble smartwatch then displays information such as pace, mileage, starting and stopping times on your wrist.
Enhanced Workout Experience
The integration of RunKeeper with the Pebble smartwatch significantly enhances the workout experience by providing real-time data directly on your wrist. This means you no longer need to constantly check your smartphone for updates on your progress. Instead, all the essential information is conveniently displayed on the Pebble’s screen. This hands-free approach allows for a more focused and uninterrupted workout session, whether you are running, walking, or cycling.
Jason Jacobs, CEO, RunKeeper explains:
“People are rightfully excited about wearables because they extend the experience of mobile apps like RunKeeper, so they can be enjoyed without taking your phone out of your pocket,”-“Pebble is such an exciting partner for RunKeeper; it is a great device and a powerful showcase of how your runs, walks and bike rides with RunKeeper can be enhanced by wearable device integration. We look forward to integrating with more wearable devices in the future.”
Future of Wearable Technology
The collaboration between RunKeeper and Pebble is just the beginning of a broader trend towards integrating wearable technology with fitness applications. Wearables like smartwatches and fitness bands are becoming increasingly popular due to their convenience and ability to provide real-time feedback. This trend is expected to grow as more devices become available and as technology continues to advance.
For example, future integrations could include more advanced metrics such as heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and even stress level assessments. These features would provide users with a more comprehensive understanding of their overall health and fitness, allowing for more personalized and effective workout plans.
The new RunKeeper app is now available to download from both the iTunes App Store and Google Play store.
