Pioneer has announced that some of its existing in car systems are getting Apple CarPlay, the company has released a firmware update for its NEX receivers that adds in Apple CarPlay functionality.
The software update is available for the Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX, the AVIC-7000NEX, AVIC-6000NEX, AVIC-5000NEX, and the AVIC-4000NEX.
The company is also launching a new model the Pioneer AppRadio 4 that comes with Apple CarPlay built in, and this will retail for $600.
If you own one of the models above, you can apply the firmware update by going to www.pioneerelectronics.com/firmware, and downloading the firmware for your device.
You will need a USB drive, and it must be used with the USB Port 1 to perform the software update, alternatively you can go to an authorized Pioneer dealer and have the update installed.
The software update will bring all of the functions of Apple CarPlay to your Pioneer system, which includes Apple’s Siri, and voice activated commands, for making calls, sending texts, playing music and more.
