UK mobile operator Orange has announced a new Quick Tap mobile payment system for Samsung’s Galaxy S III smartphone. This innovative payment system has been developed collaboratively by Orange and Barclaycard, aiming to provide a seamless and secure payment experience for users.
The Orange Quick Tap payment system will be available to all existing and new Orange customers who own a Samsung Galaxy S III. The payment system is set to launch tomorrow, the 5th of September, marking a significant step forward in mobile payment technology.
Simeon Bird, Director of Propositions, Orange UK, said: “We are really excited to be launching Quick Tap payments on one of the most popular smartphones of the year. Contactless mobile payments are a secure and convenient alternative to cash and cards and we are pleased to be the first network brand in the UK to offer its customers such an innovative service.”
How Quick Tap Works
Users of the service will be able to make contactless payments up to a maximum of £20 using their Galaxy S III device. The Quick Tap system leverages Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, which allows two devices to communicate when they are in close proximity. This means that users can simply tap their phone on a compatible payment terminal to complete a transaction. The convenience of this system is expected to appeal to a wide range of consumers, from tech-savvy individuals to those looking for a more efficient way to manage their daily transactions.
To use Quick Tap, customers will need to download the Quick Tap app from the Google Play Store. Once installed, they can link their Barclaycard account to the app, enabling them to make payments directly from their phone. The app also provides a detailed transaction history, allowing users to keep track of their spending with ease.
Incentives and Security Features
To encourage adoption of the new payment system, Orange is offering a special promotion. Anyone who activates the service on their handset from the 5th of September to the 5th of October will receive a free credit of £50 to use with the Quick Tap payment system. This generous incentive is designed to give users a risk-free opportunity to experience the convenience and security of mobile payments.
Security is a top priority for Orange and Barclaycard. The Quick Tap system includes multiple layers of security to protect users’ financial information. For instance, the app requires a PIN for access, and all transactions are encrypted to prevent unauthorized access. Additionally, if a phone is lost or stolen, users can remotely disable the Quick Tap functionality to ensure their funds remain secure.
The introduction of Quick Tap is part of a broader trend towards mobile payments, which are becoming increasingly popular worldwide. According to a report by Juniper Research, the global value of mobile payments is expected to exceed $3 trillion by 2025. This growth is driven by the convenience and security that mobile payments offer, as well as the increasing prevalence of smartphones.
The launch of the Orange Quick Tap payment system represents a significant advancement in mobile payment technology. By offering a secure, convenient, and innovative payment solution, Orange and Barclaycard are setting a new standard for mobile payments in the UK. With the added incentive of £50 free credit, there has never been a better time for Samsung Galaxy S III users to embrace this cutting-edge technology.
