It looks like specifications for the new Nintendo 3DS have been leaked to the guys over at IGN, and according to the report, the new Nintendo 3DS features some impressive hardware.
The Nintendo 3DS will feature two 266MHz ARM11 processors, as well as a PICA200 133MHZ GPU by DMP, and 64MB of RAM, plus 4MB of video RAM.
On top of that, the new Nintendo 3DS will also come with 1.5GB of flash-based storage built-in. This storage capacity is quite significant for a handheld gaming device, allowing users to store a variety of games and applications directly on the console. Additionally, the 3DS supports expandable storage via SD cards, providing even more flexibility for gamers who want to carry a large library of games and media.
Dual Display Technology
We already know that the new 3DS will feature dual displays. The top display is the 3D display, which is a 3.5-inch screen with a resolution of 800 x 240. According to Nintendo, 400 pixels are allocated for each eye to enable 3D viewing without the need for special glasses. This glasses-free 3D technology is one of the standout features of the 3DS, offering an immersive gaming experience that sets it apart from other handheld consoles.
The bottom screen is a 3-inch touch screen display with a resolution of 320 x 240. This touch screen allows for intuitive interaction with games and applications, similar to the functionality found in the Nintendo DS. The combination of a 3D top screen and a touch-sensitive bottom screen provides a unique and versatile gaming experience.
Additional Features and Enhancements
Beyond the impressive hardware specifications, the Nintendo 3DS includes several additional features that enhance its functionality and user experience. One such feature is the inclusion of a gyroscope and accelerometer, which allow for motion-based controls. This opens up new possibilities for game developers to create innovative gameplay mechanics that take advantage of the 3DS’s motion-sensing capabilities.
The 3DS also includes a built-in microphone and stereo speakers, providing clear audio for both in-game sound effects and voice communication. The console supports Wi-Fi connectivity, enabling online multiplayer gaming, digital downloads, and access to the Nintendo eShop, where users can purchase and download games, applications, and other content.
Another notable feature is the inclusion of augmented reality (AR) capabilities. The 3DS comes with AR cards that, when viewed through the console’s cameras, create interactive 3D images and games in the real world. This blend of virtual and real-world elements adds an extra layer of fun and creativity to the gaming experience.
The 3DS also boasts backward compatibility with Nintendo DS games, allowing users to enjoy their existing DS library on the new console. This ensures that gamers can continue to play their favorite DS titles while taking advantage of the new features and improved performance of the 3DS.
