Newegg has decided to take a more active approach to its gaming consumer-base by creating a new gaming news site called GameCrate. It’s essentially your typical IGN or Gamespot, but it’s funded entirely through Newegg.
Why the hell would Newegg all of a sudden jump into the gaming media scene? Their Chief Marketing Officer in North America, Soren Mills, stated “We want to be more than a shopping destination for our customers and GameCrate is an innovative addition to our community.”
The reason many gamers are considering this a good thing is because it’s a site that will be presumably free of corporate influence. Newegg makes more than enough money to keep the game afloat and shouldn’t need to make deals with corporations to create content that doesn’t truly reflect the gaming community’s views and/or interests.
I took a look at the site and it seems pretty basic. They have the same news as everyone else and show it offer in a flashy yet simplistic manner that’s easy to navigate. It also ties into Newegg so you can buy their products after reading up on the gaming news that interests you most.
The site can be accessed directly via gamecrate.newegg.com. Check out and let us know what you think about it in the comment section below.
