Audi has opened a new EV charging Hub in Frankfurt, marking the sixth EV charging hub in the city. This new hub is equipped with fast charging capabilities of up to 320 kW and features four high-power-charging (HPC) stations. This development is part of Audi’s broader strategy to enhance the infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) and support the growing number of EV users.
Enhanced Charging Infrastructure
The new charging hub in Frankfurt is strategically located to cater to the high density of electrically powered vehicles in the metropolitan area. The hub not only provides a much-needed additional charging point but also offers a convenient place for users to spend their waiting time. The adjacent Klassikstadt building provides an ideal spot for drivers to relax or engage in other activities while their vehicles charge.
“In the Frankfurt metropolitan area, we’ve got a high density of electrically powered vehicles. At the same time, the supply of charging points is constantly increasing. The charging hub is not only a welcome additional charging opportunity, but it also gives users the option to spend the waiting time at the adjacent Klassikstadt building,” says Frankfurt City Councillor Stephanie Wüst, Head of Department for Economic Affairs, Law, and City Marketing. Rapid charging in and around city centers is particularly important for drivers who cannot charge their cars at home or at work, Wüst notes.
Investment in Urban Charging Solutions
Audi’s investment in downtown charging solutions is a significant step towards making EV charging more accessible and convenient. The company expects around 5,000 charging operations per year at the new Frankfurt hub. This projection is based on the success of similar hubs in other locations. For instance, in Nuremberg, Audi has been operating a charging hub with six charging points and a 200-square-meter lounge since December 2021. The return rate of customers at this location is approximately 70 percent, indicating high user satisfaction and frequent use.
Audi is investing in downtown charging. “In Frankfurt, we’re expecting about 5,000 charging operations per year,” says Nikolai Senst, who is responsible for managing the rollout of Audi charging hubs. “We anticipate there will be a similarly high rate of return customers as at the other locations.” In Nuremberg, where Audi has been operating an Audi charging hub with six charging points and a 200-square-meter lounge upstairs since December 2021, the return rate is approximately 70 percent. The hub is available to drivers of all brands of car. Audi customers can book a charging slot online via the myAudi app.
The new hub is designed to be user-friendly and accessible to drivers of all car brands, not just Audi vehicles. This inclusivity is a crucial aspect of Audi’s strategy to promote the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. Audi customers, however, have the added convenience of booking a charging slot online via the myAudi app, ensuring a seamless and efficient charging experience.
Moreover, the fast-charging capability of up to 320 kW means that drivers can quickly recharge their vehicles and get back on the road. This is particularly beneficial for those who rely on their EVs for daily commuting and cannot afford long waiting times.
The establishment of these hubs also reflects Audi’s commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. By providing more charging options, Audi is encouraging more drivers to switch to electric vehicles, thereby contributing to a cleaner and greener environment.
