Lexus has pulled the covers off its very first EV called the UX 300e. The vehicle is based on the standard UX with the same style. The big feature of the 300e is that it is all-electric with a battery pack in the floor.
The battery pack has a capacity of 54.3 kWh giving the EV a range of 400 km per charge. It can charge at 6.6 kW with a regular AC outlet or 50 kW with a quick DC charger. The vehicle is app connected to allow owners to check range, charge state, and more from a smartphone.
Lexus says it worked hard to make the vehicle quiet and comfortable. UX 300e has a paddle shift that can be used like engine braking to regenerate the battery. The car will be sold in China and Europe in 2020 and Japan in 2021. There is no indication of availability in the States.
