Korg now allows you to add analog synthesizer functionality to your iPad using the new Korg iMS-20 iPad application.
The Korg iMS-20 app provides the iPad with complete music production functionality and is basically a complete recreation of the legendary Korg MS-20 analog synth complete with the patching capability.
Together with a 16-step analog sequencer based on the Korg SQ-10, a six-part drum machine which can create drum parts by simply tapping the buttons, and a seven-channel mixer with 14 types of effects.
The iMS-20 allows you to create music by simply stroking your iPad screen. Once you have created your tune you can then use the SoundCloud audio platform to publish your songs for download or sharing with others.
Features and Capabilities
The Korg iMS-20 app is not just a simple synthesizer; it is a comprehensive music production studio. The 16-step analog sequencer allows for intricate pattern creation, enabling users to craft complex musical sequences with ease. The six-part drum machine is intuitive and user-friendly, allowing even beginners to create compelling drum tracks by tapping on the screen. The seven-channel mixer provides a robust platform for blending different sounds, and the 14 types of effects offer a wide range of sound manipulation options, from reverb and delay to more complex modulation effects.
Moreover, the app includes a virtual patch bay, which replicates the patching capabilities of the original MS-20. This feature allows users to experiment with different signal paths and create unique sounds that are impossible to achieve with standard synthesizers. The patch bay is a powerful tool for sound designers and electronic musicians who want to push the boundaries of their creativity.
Integration and Sharing
One of the standout features of the Korg iMS-20 app is its integration with SoundCloud. This feature makes it incredibly easy to share your creations with the world. After crafting your masterpiece, you can upload it directly to SoundCloud, where it can be accessed by a global audience. This is particularly useful for musicians looking to gain exposure or collaborate with others. The ability to share your music instantly adds a social dimension to the app, making it more than just a tool for music creation.
Additionally, the app supports MIDI input and output, allowing it to be used in conjunction with other MIDI-compatible devices and software. This makes the Korg iMS-20 a versatile addition to any music production setup, whether you’re working in a professional studio or creating music on the go.
