Fans of the Spotify music service will love this cool Spotify Radio created by Jordi Parra. This innovative device was developed as part of Jordi’s degree project and essentially functions as a radio that can play Spotify playlists over WiFi.
As you will see in the video below, it features tiny RFID disks. These disks store the information for each of the playlists, and when a new one is inserted into the radio, it will play a new playlist.
How It Works
The concept is a standalone player that comes with 8 tags that can be linked to music. It can be for yourself, or to give it to somebody else as a present, giving you the chance to link music to the tags before giving it to that person. In a way, it’s like we used to do with mixtapes, but now the “mixtapes” are RFID tags linked to music on Spotify. Each RFID disk can be programmed with a specific playlist, allowing users to easily switch between different sets of music by simply swapping the disks.
