Apple didn’t follow their annual upgrade cycle for the iPhone this year at WWDC 2011. Instead, the iPhone 5 is expected to launch later in the year, and we have been hearing rumors over the past few months that the iPhone 5 would launch in September.
According to a recent report by MacRumors, the iPhone 5 has entered the final stage of testing, which would indicate that Apple is getting ready to launch the iPhone 5 within the next few months.
We are expecting Apple to announce the iPhone 5 at the same time as iOS 5 is made available. When iOS 5 was announced, we were told it would be available in the fall of 2011, which would tie in with the September iPhone rumors.
Apple usually holds an annual iPod event in September, so we suspect that the iPhone 5 will officially be unveiled then, and will probably go on sale in September as well.
Anticipated Features of the iPhone 5
The iPhone 5 is expected to come with a host of new features and improvements over its predecessor, the iPhone 4. Rumors suggest that the new device will feature a larger screen, possibly around 4 inches, compared to the 3.5-inch display on the iPhone 4. This would make the iPhone 5 more competitive with other smartphones on the market that have larger displays.
Another anticipated feature is a faster processor. The iPhone 5 is expected to be powered by Apple’s A5 chip, which is the same chip used in the iPad 2. This would provide a significant performance boost, making the device faster and more efficient.
There are also rumors that the iPhone 5 will have an improved camera, possibly an 8-megapixel sensor, compared to the 5-megapixel camera on the iPhone 4. This would allow for higher quality photos and videos, which is a key feature for many smartphone users.
Design and Build
In terms of design, the iPhone 5 is expected to have a thinner and lighter build compared to the iPhone 4. Some reports suggest that the device will have a metal back, similar to the original iPhone, which would give it a more premium feel. There are also rumors that the iPhone 5 will have a redesigned antenna system to address the reception issues that some users experienced with the iPhone 4.
Another design change that has been rumored is the relocation of the home button. Some reports suggest that the home button will be larger and possibly capacitive, allowing for new gestures and functionality.

The expected features and design changes suggest that the iPhone 5 will be a significant upgrade over the iPhone 4, offering a larger screen, faster processor, improved camera, and a new design. As always, Apple fans and tech enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting the next big thing from Apple.
