Apple has just announced that they will continue to sell the iPad 2 alongside the new iPad 3, and prices of the iPad 2 will start at $399 whilst the new iPad 3 will retail for $499.
This is a smart move for Apple, as they will now be able to offer two different tablets at two different price points, and by dropping the price of the iPad 2 by $100 to $399 they will make their iPad range more accessible.
Apple previously did this with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, which ended up being very profitable for the company, and we suspect that this will help them sell more iPads in 2012 than they have done in previous years.
