A tungsten bladed pocket knife has been created by professional engineer Gary Lorenz in the form of the aptly named TungstenKnight which is now available to purchase via Kickstarter with early bird pledges available from $118 or roughly £91. Watch the demonstration video below to learn more about the hybrid blade hunting knife created to provide users with high performance thanks to its tungsten carbide edge braised to a stainless steel blade.
“Tungsten Knight breaks through the limitations of working with a single metal. Using a unique hybrid design, it offers the unparalleled durability of tungsten carbide and increased lateral toughness by laminating with a ductile steel blade. This cutting edge in making knife blades yields the next level of performance in the hand of the user. “
“With a single blade material there is always a tradeoff between durability of the edge and toughness of the blade to take a lateral impact. Up until now, a single material that optimizes both has not been invented. If you want a sharp and durable edge, it comes at the expense of reduced toughness and elasticity. Of course, a tough and softer knife requires frequent sharpening. With the TungstenKnight, you get the best of both worlds with fewer compromises.”
With nine days remaining on its campaign the Kickstarter project is nearly funded thanks to over 140 backers and worldwide shipping is expected to take place in a few months time during August 2019 if manufacturing progresses smoothly. The multipurpose life has been designed for hunting, scuba-diving and more, offering a high performance hybrid blade.
