After its fair share of delays, it seems the woes of owners in possession of the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition were heard. It was recently revealed that Android 5.0 Lollipop roll out for the handset will commence later today.
The news came from HTC’s Mo Versi on Twitter who revealed they have received technical approval from the folks at Google, and the roll out will start at noon later today.
He said on Twitter, “M8 GPE Owners! We just received TA from Google!! I am very grateful for all your patience. OTA to start at noon on 12/5 (working to pull in)”
Since the tweet, several HTC One M8 owners tweeted that their HTC One M8 Google Play Edition is receiving the update, which will bump their software to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, and requires at least 500MB of free storage to proceed with the installation.
Google Play Edition handsets are usually one of the first ones after Nexus devices to get the taste of the latest Android updates, but it seems Motorola may have taken the lead this time as they have released the sweet Android 5.0 Lollipop for a number of its handsets.
The standard HTC One M8 along with a bunch of other HTC handsets are also expected to get the latest update in the coming months. We’ll update you as soon as it commences.
