We have already seen some videos of the new iOS 14 and watchOS 7 software and now we get to have a look at Apple’s new Mac software, macOS Big Sur.
The new macOS Big Sur software is coming to the Mac later this year and this will be one of the biggest updates for the Mac since the release of Mac OS X.
As we can see from the video there are quite a few design changes in this new version of macOS and also lots of new features.
Design Overhaul and User Interface
One of the most noticeable changes in macOS Big Sur is its design overhaul. Apple has introduced a more modern and streamlined look, with a focus on clarity and content. The new design includes a refreshed dock with a more translucent appearance, updated app icons that are more consistent with iOS, and a redesigned menu bar that is now more translucent and less obtrusive. The overall aesthetic is cleaner and more visually appealing, making it easier for users to navigate and find what they need.
The Notification Center has also been revamped, combining notifications and widgets into a single view. This makes it easier to stay on top of important alerts and information without having to switch between different screens. Additionally, the Control Center has been brought over from iOS, providing quick access to essential controls like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and display brightness.
New Features and Enhancements
macOS Big Sur is not just about looks; it also brings a host of new features and enhancements that improve functionality and performance. One of the standout features is the new Safari browser, which Apple claims is the fastest in the world. Safari now includes a customizable start page, improved tab management, and enhanced privacy features. Users can also expect faster page loading times and better battery efficiency.
Messages on macOS Big Sur has been significantly upgraded to match its iOS counterpart. Users can now pin conversations, use @mentions to get someone’s attention, and reply to specific messages in group chats. The new Memoji stickers and message effects add a fun and personal touch to conversations.
Another major update is the introduction of the new Maps app, which has been rebuilt from the ground up. The new Maps app includes features like Look Around, which provides a 360-degree view of a location, and Guides, which offer curated recommendations for places to visit. Users can also create custom guides to share with friends and family.
macOS Big Sur also brings improvements to the system’s performance and security. The new software update includes a more efficient update process, which allows for faster and more reliable installations. Additionally, Apple has implemented new privacy features that give users more control over their data and how it is used by apps.
We are looking forward to find out more details about the new macOS Big Sur software update, it is expected to land some time in September or October.
