Google has just rolled out a new update for its Google Docs service which brings with it a number of new features including support for an additional 12 file types from popular software programs.
The new update now allows you to open the files in Google Docs Viewer without the need to open another software application. Allowing you to now send files to recipients to view that might not have the original software used to create the file loaded on their system. You can use Google Docs to quickly view documents online without leaving your browser. The stand alone version is available here. In Gmail, these types of attachments will now show a “View” link, and clicking on this link will bring up the Google Docs Viewer.
Google Docs new supported file types: Microsoft Excel (.XLS and .XLSX), Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 / 2010 (.PPTX), Apple Pages (.PAGES), Adobe Illustrator (.AI), Adobe Photoshop (.PSD), Autodesk AutoCAD (.DXF), Scalable Vector Graphics (.SVG), PostScript (.EPS, .PS), TrueType (.TTF), XML Paper Specification (.XPS).
