Rockmelt is a new type of browser that integrates with Facebook and allows you to keep up to date with your social network via a browser-style interface. Rockmelt is still currently under development but released a private beta last November and has now released a public beta version which you can now download and put through its paces.
It includes a number of great features to help you keep on top of your social network and allows you to quickly log in to your Facebook account as soon as the browser starts. Watch the video after the break to see a quick advert about its features.

Rockmelt users can communicate without having to open new tabs or windows, and you can access Facebook’s website directly within the browser. The Chat Bar displays the user’s own status, which can be updated, and display picture, along with the contacts in a list with their own statuses and display pictures.
Rockmelt has been developed by Tim Howes and Eric Vishria and backed by Netscape founder Marc Andreessen. It is based on Google’s open-source project Chromium.
Enhanced Social Media Integration
One of the standout features of Rockmelt is its deep integration with social media platforms, particularly Facebook. This integration allows users to receive real-time updates and notifications without having to navigate away from their current browsing session. The browser also supports Twitter, enabling users to tweet, retweet, and follow new accounts directly from the browser interface. This seamless integration makes Rockmelt an ideal choice for users who are heavily engaged in social media activities.
Additionally, Rockmelt offers a unique feature called the “Edge,” which is a sidebar that provides quick access to your favorite websites and social media feeds. This feature ensures that you are always connected and can easily switch between different platforms without losing track of your browsing activities. The Edge also supports RSS feeds, allowing you to stay updated with the latest news and blog posts from your favorite websites.
Customizable User Experience
Rockmelt is designed to offer a highly customizable user experience. Users can personalize their browsing environment by adding extensions and apps from the Chrome Web Store, thanks to its Chromium base. This flexibility allows users to tailor the browser to meet their specific needs, whether it’s for productivity, entertainment, or social networking.
Moreover, Rockmelt includes a built-in search feature that provides instant search results as you type, similar to Google’s Instant Search. This feature not only speeds up the search process but also enhances the overall browsing experience by reducing the time spent on searching for information. Users can also save their favorite websites and frequently visited pages for quick access, making the browsing experience more efficient and enjoyable.
Another notable feature is the browser’s ability to sync across multiple devices. This means that your bookmarks, history, and settings can be accessed from any device where Rockmelt is installed. This cross-device synchronization ensures that you have a consistent browsing experience, whether you’re using a desktop, laptop, or mobile device.
In conclusion, Rockmelt is a revolutionary browser that offers a unique blend of social media integration and customizable features. Its ability to keep users connected to their social networks while providing a seamless browsing experience makes it a compelling choice for anyone looking to enhance their online activities. With its ongoing development and the backing of industry veterans, Rockmelt is poised to make a significant impact in the world of web browsers.
