Online auction giant Ebay apparently has a new project in the works that will launch later this year, it will be called The Plaza and will be an online mall that will sell retail goods.
According to a recent report by TechCrunch, the Ebay The Plaza mall will be launching this spring and will focus on direct to consumer sales of retail goods.
Ebay will apparently use The Plaza to allow retailers to sell good direct to customers through Ebay, and brands will be able to use Ebay to gain access to its users without weakening their brand by listing it along with used an auction goods.
So basically major brands could sell their products direct to Ebay customers in a different place than goods are currently sold through on Ebay’s auction site.
Whether or not the service will become successful will all depend on which brands decide to sign up for the service, and sell their goods through the Plaza.
If Ebay are able to convince top brands like Nike, Apple, Gap and more to use The Plaza it could end up being a popular online shopping destination.
