HTC recently launched their new HTC One M8, the device is made from premium materials, and according to a recent report, HTC have a cheaper version of the handset in the works.
The cheaper HTC One M8 will apparently come with a plastic casing, and it is said to be launching in China first, and will apparently retail for 3000 yuan (about $483).
The current HTC One M8 retails for 5299 yuan (about $853) in China, so this new model would almost be half the price of the existing HTC One.
Specifications and Features
HTC will apparently keep the internal specifications of the plastic HTC One M8 very similar to the existing model. This means that users can expect the same powerful performance and features that have made the HTC One M8 popular. The original HTC One M8 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 5-inch Full HD display. It also includes a 4 Ultrapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera, along with a 2600mAh battery.
Whether or not it will still be called the HTC One remains to be seen. There is the possibility it could be launched as the new HTC Butterfly, although we did hear recently that this model would not come with an Ultrapixel camera. Instead, it might feature a more conventional camera setup to keep costs down.
Market Strategy and Competition
Launching a cheaper version of the HTC One M8 could be a strategic move by HTC to capture a larger share of the mid-range smartphone market, especially in price-sensitive regions like China. By offering a more affordable option with similar specifications, HTC can attract customers who are looking for high-quality smartphones without the premium price tag.
The mid-range smartphone market is highly competitive, with numerous manufacturers offering devices with impressive specifications at lower prices. Brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo have been particularly successful in this segment. By introducing a plastic-cased HTC One M8, HTC aims to compete directly with these brands and regain some market share.
As soon as we get some more details on this new cheaper version of the HTC One M8, we will let you guys know. This move could potentially rejuvenate HTC’s presence in the smartphone market, which has seen stiff competition from other manufacturers in recent years.
