Because we all know it’s not a proper franchise until there’s a golf game of it, Call of Duty is continuing the triumphant march into diversity and experimentation that started with Call Of Duty Elite. Right after Sledgehammer, one of the studios created in the wake of the Infinity Ward implosion that was working on the new outing is done with the current behemoth, Modern Warfare 3.
“They were originally working on an extension of the Call of Duty franchise into an action/adventure genre and that’s a game I still want to play,” according to Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg. “That’s a supreme, incredible group doing that. All I can say is right now they’re 100% focused on Modern Warfare 3.” So, that’s either a full-on endorsement or a really really easy let-down for the Sledgehammer guys. But at least in our experience, games that get hyped during interviews by CEOs rarely get cancelled.
