Pairs of old sneakers tend to clutter living spaces and cramp your lifestyle. Unless you give them away to deserving folks or just throw them in the trash, there’s little else that can be done with unused sneakers. OAT Shoes have come up with a novel solution—bury your old pair in the garden.
The Amsterdam-based team behind the OAT sneakers wanted to break new ground by creating footwear whose eventual redundancy didn’t burden Mother Nature. After years of testing, they’ve finally come up with the ideal material that’s “gobbled up” by nature once discarded anywhere. In fact, it says so in the OAT website:
“OAT Shoes is a brand-new initiative in shoe design combining biodegradable materials and attractive style to produce sportive shoes that not only look good, but leave no mark on the environment when you throw them out. Bury them in garden, woods or compost and nature will gobble them right up!”
The Oat guys also have an active blog and we have to admit we’re impressed y the mileage these OATs have made. From trade shows to fashion awards, the OAT has been on a pan-European tour since late last year.
Alas, no word on the official launch date or pricing just yet. When the OATs do hit stores, expect them to be in different color combinations.
