Last week there was a rumor that Barnes & Noble were about to launch a new eBook reader, they have now officially announced the Barnes & Noble Nook Color.
The Nook Color is based on Google’s Android OS, and it features a 7 inch full color touchscreen 1024 x 600 ips display, which also features an anti-glare coating.
Storage and Connectivity
Storage wise the Nook Color features 8GB of storage built in which is enough to store about 6,000 books. For those who need more storage, there is also a microSD card slot that supports up to 32GB of additional storage. This means users can potentially store tens of thousands of books, magazines, and other digital content. The device also comes with built-in WiFi, allowing users to easily download new books and access other online content.
Battery Life and Availability
According to Barnes & Noble, the Nook Color will have a battery life of about 8 hours. This is quite impressive for a device with a full-color touchscreen, as color displays typically consume more power than e-ink screens. The Nook Color is designed to be a versatile device, not just for reading but also for browsing the web, checking email, and even playing some games.
The Nook Color will be available from the 19th of November 2010 for $249. This price point makes it a competitive option in the eReader market, especially considering its color display and additional functionalities.
Additional Features and Content
The Nook Color isn’t just about reading books. It also supports a variety of multimedia content, including magazines, newspapers, and children’s books with interactive elements. The device is designed to offer a rich, engaging reading experience that goes beyond traditional eReaders. Users can also access a wide range of apps from the Barnes & Noble app store, further enhancing the device’s versatility.
The Nook Color also includes social features, allowing users to share their reading experiences with friends and family. For example, users can share book recommendations, highlight passages, and even lend books to other Nook users. This social aspect adds a new dimension to the reading experience, making it more interactive and communal.
