3D artist Tor Flick has created an awesome demonstration of his skills and created a Scifi Lab demonstration which has been built using use one texture used with diffuse and masks, and normalmap. Flick has relied heavily on masking and using UVs in different ways to get the most out of this scene and save texture memory.
“This is an environment I built as an experiment in how far I could push texture-reusage, without having to rely on alot of different materials. The entire scene uses 2 256*512 textures, one for diffuse and masks, and one for normalmap. I am relying heavily on masking and using UVs in different ways to get the most out of this scene. I wanted to have as much visual fidelity and variation without having to resort to multiple materials per object.”
