A company called AddArmor has announced what it claims to be the world’s fastest armored car. The car started life as a fast Audi RS7 and was then upgraded with AddArmor’s in-house built armor paneling and ballistic glass. Rather than using typical steel armor, the AddArmor APR RS7 uses polycarbonate body panels and ballistic glass with layers of polycarbonate that is said to be ten times stronger than ballistic steel.
While the polycarbonate panels are stronger than steel, they also weigh in at 50% less. The panels are strong enough to withstand repeated impacts and can stop a .44 Magnum round. The armor plating and special glass add about 200 pounds to the weight of the RS7.
To make up for that extra weight, the company says the car has a special performance package that gives it 760hp and 800 lb-ft of torque. The car can reach 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and 202 mph on the top end. It rolls on special run-flat tires that can operate for up to 30 miles after being shot multiple times. The car also has an integrated ram bumper, door shock handles, and other offensive weapons.
