Earlier in the week Apple changed their terms and conditions for the iPhone’s latest OS, iOS 4, an with the new terms and conditions came a new privacy policy, which basically lets Apple track where you are and the provides this information in real time to its partners, so the information can be used for their iAds.
You have to op out to stop your location data being shared, and now Apple is under scrutiny from Congress, as Reps Edward J Markey and Joe Barton are raising questions over the new privacy policy.
‘Given the limited ability of Apple users to opt out of the revised policy and still be able to take advantage of the features of their Apple products, we are concerned about the impact the collection of such data could have on the privacy of Apple’s customers,’ the congressmen wrote in a recent letter (PDF) to Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs.
It will be interesting to see what the outcome of this is, will Apple have to change their privacy policy to Opt In rather than Opt Out? As soon as we get some more information we will let you guys know.
If you want to Opt Out of the location sharing feature, you can do this by visiting http://oo.apple.com from the Safari browser on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
