500px is a photography community site where photographers can show off their pictures, meet other photographers, and even sell their pictures. 500px recently started Prime, a picture purchasing service that’s seeking to make the buying and licensing of photos simpler for both the photographer and the purchasing party. For $250 you can get a royalty-free worldwide, any media license to tons of original photos offered by Prime users.
Of course, they’re not going to sell pictures out of the goodness of their heart. 500px keeps a cut of the profits, and there was a lot of controversy when it turned out they were going to keep the majority. Luckily, 500px Prime is in beta, and the company decided to change its ways. Now photographers get 70% of the flat $250 rate, and they can get even more if they sell their photos for more money.
There are some very talented photographers posting original pictures on 500px. If you’re in need of some pictures or simply wish to admire some premier artistry, check out the site. You don’t have to buy through Prime either. You can contact the photographer yourself and work something out if you so choose.
