VW has announced the pricing on the 2020 Passat, which will start at $22,995. The car is powered by a VW 2.0-liter turbo, direct-injection TSI engine that makes 174 horsepower. The vehicle uses a new torque convertor with new software to pump torque to 206 lb-ft. Power goes to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic.
The 2020 Passat has the same underpinnings as the previous model but is completely restyled on the outside. The car has standard slim LED headlights. Standard wheels are 17-inch units with 18 and 19-inch wheels as an option. Inside, the car gets a new dash design with upgraded technology and a spacious cabin.
There are three interior decor packages available, depending on trim. The car uses VW V-Tex leatherette and Nappa leather surface in addition to standard cloth seats. The four trim levels will be at dealers by the end of 2019. The base is the Passat S starting at $22,995.
The Passat SE starts at $25,845 and adds leatherette seating, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and in-car WiFi capability. Adaptive cruise and lane assist are standard with a sunroof as an option for $995.
The next step up is the R-Line starting at $28,645 with sunroof, alarm, and ambient lighting standard. It gets 19-inch wheels and some visual tweaks on the outside. The top of the line version is the Passat SEL starting at $31,095 with 18-inch wheels, leather seats, Fender Audio system, easy-open trunk, and lots more features. All pricing is plus a $920 destination charge. All models use the same engine with the same power output.
