Last month, Motorola started offering the wood backs for Moto X for an extra $100, in addition to the original price of the handset. However, it was only available in Bamboo, and there was no word about the launch of the other materials, including ebony, walnut and teak. The only difference is that Rosewood is replaced by walnut, which isn’t a very big deal.
First of all, the extra $100 might discourage potential customers, and it seems the Google-owned company realized this fact, and has reduced the price of the wood backs to just $25 for Bamboo, which is quite reasonable. Additionally, the company announced that the other three wood back types, ebony, walnut and teak, will hit the Moto Maker on January 21st.
Moto X is now available for the everyday starting price of $399 off-contract. We want to make the upgrade to a wood finish just as accessible to people, so we’re making it available for just $25 more. Bamboo will be available with this new price on Moto Maker starting today and Walnut, Teak and Ebony finishes will be available starting January 21st.
Those of you who already purchased the Moto X with wood back customization for the additional $100, Motorola is emailing you with a $75 coupon code which can be used to purchase a bunch of accessories.
So, how many of you are purchasing the Moto X with wood back customization now?
