Microsoft has announced Windows Phone 8 Update 3, it was previously known as Windows Phone GDR3 or General Distribution Release 3.
Microsoft has said that Windows Phone 8 Update 3 will be rolled out to existing Windows Phone devices over the next few months, the update comes with a range of new features.
One of the main features in Windows Phone 8 Update 3 is the support for larger, higher resolution displays, Windows Phone will now support larger displays of 5 and 6 inches with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, like the new unannounced Nokia Lumia 1520.
Windows Phone 8 Update 3 will also add in support for more powerful processors, like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor which is a quad core processor.
Some of the other new features in Windows Phone 8 Update 3 include a new Driving Mode, which is designed to limit notifications on the lock screen, providing less distractions when you are driving.
There are also new accessibility features, improved internet sharing, custom ringtones, rotation lock, improved storage manageent, an updated app switcher, plus updated WiFi and Bluetooth.
As well as announcing the Windows Phone 8 Update 3, Microsoft has also announced the Windows Phone 8 update 3 developer preview program, which will give developers access to the update before general release.
