A new Android App was released earlier this week that allows you to make free mobile phone calls directly from your mobile phone over VoIP. Nothing new you might say, there are already apps that allow you to do this!
Well Voxtrot is a little different in its design, as you dont need to re-open the application to make the calls once it has been installed for the first time. Allowing users to call each other using their mobile phones’ data connections without building a new contact list or setting up a username.
Once you have installed the app, your phone will automatically connect to the Voxtrot service whenever you turn it on, allowing you to then use Voxtrot’s free service to call other Voxtrot users. If the person you are calling doesn’t use Voxtrot, your phone automatically makes the call using a regular carrier. The service works anywhere in the world with whatever type of data connection is available (Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G, etc.).
Founder Taavet Hinrikus was Skype’s first employee and worked with the service that made VoIP a popular phone call alternative for seven years. But he says that services like Skype fall short when it comes to their mobile apps and has now created Voxtrot to address the issues.
