O2 has released details of Internet tethering on the iPhone in the UK, you will be able to use your iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS with your PC or Mac for an additional monthly fee.
If you are a normal pay monthly customer, you will be able to add on a tethering data plan to your iPhone, £14.68 per month gets you 3GB of data, if you go over this amount you will be charged 19.6p per MB, 10GB of data per month will cost £29.36, the over data usage charge is the same.
If you are a business customer there are a number of options, if you sign up to a 24 month data tethering contract 3GB of data will cost you £9.99 a month, and 9GB of data will cost you £20 a month, or you can go for the 30 day option, where 3GB of data will cost you £12.77 a month and 9GB of data £23.83 a month.
All of the above prices are excluding VAT, so you can add another 15% on to those prices, it is hardly fair to charge this extra amount, when we are supposed to get unlimited data with the iPhone, it looks like this is just another way for O2 to milk their customers.
As well as being able to use your iPhone as a data modem over 3G you will get access to over 5,000 WiFi hotspots within the UK.
These data tethering plans will be available in the UK from June 17th when the new iPhone OS 3.0 goes live.
