Earlier we saw a torture test video for the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and now we have another video of the handset from JerryRigEverything.
As the back of the Galaxy S9 features a glass back, it is possible to modify the handset to show a clear glass back on the device. This is something we saw previously with the Galaxy Note 8 and also the Galaxy S8.
Steps to Achieve the Clear Glass Back
As we can see from the video, to get a glass back on the Galaxy S9 you have to take the handset apart and then remove the paint from inside the rear of the case. Not exactly the easiest mod to do, although it does look pretty good once done.
The process involves several meticulous steps. First, you need to carefully heat the edges of the back panel to soften the adhesive. Using a suction cup and a thin prying tool, you can then gently lift the back panel off. Once the back panel is removed, the next step is to strip the paint from the inside of the glass. This can be done using a variety of methods, including solvents or scraping tools. It’s important to be cautious during this step to avoid damaging the glass or other components.
Considerations and Risks
While the clear glass back mod can give your Galaxy S9 a unique and stylish look, it’s important to consider the risks involved. Removing the back panel and stripping the paint can void your warranty and potentially damage the device if not done correctly. Additionally, the process requires a steady hand and a good understanding of the phone’s internal components.
For those who are not comfortable performing this mod themselves, there are professional services available that can do it for you. However, these services can be costly, and it’s important to choose a reputable provider to ensure the job is done correctly.
Moreover, having a clear glass back can expose the internal components to potential damage from drops or impacts. The original painted back provides an extra layer of protection, which is lost when the paint is removed. Therefore, it’s advisable to use a protective case even after performing the mod to safeguard your device.
