Being a grenade lamp, it wouldn’t be surprising for one to think you pull the pin on this before it’s lit. Alas, as the pic down south indicates, you “disarm” the grenade to light the wick. It’s pretty old school, being an oil lamp that needs the occasional refill.
Still, it’s pretty cool to have a few of this lying around the house, making people think you’re either nuts, an SAS commando on leave, or a terrorist. Whatever.
By the looks of it the build to convert a frag grenade into a lamp appears simple. The grenade itself was probably bought in a memorabilia shop or from some collector. Though turning it into a lamp scores high in the neat-o factor, even if the potential for this to roll over (well, it is rounded) suggests you shouldn’t leave this anywhere near curtains or a stack of old newspapers.
More detailed instructions can be found here and below is a chunk of lifted text.
“The term for these safe and empty hand grenades is ‘dummy hand grenade.’ Do a Google search and plenty should pop up for about $8-$10. These are metal, come with pins, and have a pretty good heft to them. They’re also hollow and have holes in the top and bottom.”
This comes highly recommended for those Call of Duty diehards whow ant extra “war” ambience while they’re gaming.
