If you enjoy using the Arduino platform and would like to create your very own self balancing robot, you might be interested in a new device called the Hippo-ADK which is Arduino based and can be used in connection with Lego NXT and and Android device.
The self balancing robot is equipped with two Lego NXT motors and the open source Hippo-ADK board connects to a Android smartphone or tablet to provide extra processing power and functionality.
Since the robot already has one Android device supporting it, you can then use another to control it remotely if desired. Check out the video below to learn more about the Hippo-ADK development board and what it is capable of.
“Hippo-ADK is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on Android. By combining an Arduino-like microcontroller board with Android, not only does it allows you to tap into the powerful resources of your smart devices, but also to do so in an amazingly simple and elegant manner.
Hippo-ADK connects with your Android devices in real time through USB and Bluetooth. This allows you instant access to sensors, switches, accelerometers, gyroscopes, magnetometers, communication modules (Wi-Fi, GPS, GSM), cameras, and LCD screens without even having to spend a dollar on optional parts. It is all on your Android devices.
No need to learn the mind-boggling hardware programming; Just use graphical programming platform App Inventor or Java API to create your project.”
The Hippo-ADK project is currently over on the Kickstarter crowd funding website looking to raise enough $10,000 in pledges. So if you think Hippo-ADK is something your robotic tinkering could use, visit the Kickstarter website now to make a pledge and help Hippo-ADK become a reality.
