The Samsung Galaxy S10 will come with two different processors, some handsets will have the new Samsung Exynos 9820 processor and others will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. The processors will vary by region, with the Exynos 9820 typically being used in international models and the Snapdragon 855 in models sold in the United States.
Samsung has now released a video and more information about their new Exynos 9820 processor and some of its features.
Enhanced AI Capabilities
The Exynos 9820 has an integrated neural processing unit (NPU) to deliver deep learning capabilities whilst using less power. With the NPU, Exynos 9820 can perform AI-related functions seven times faster than its predecessor based on TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second).
This allows the processor to implement AI anywhere, anytime through its on-device artificial intelligence. With on-device AI, a mobile device can perform artificial intelligent activities with lower latency, better power efficiency, and stronger security than when utilizing the cloud. It enables the mobile device to offer new and improved artificial intelligence features such as personal assistant services, augmented reality, and enhanced camera functions.
The NPU in the Exynos 9820 is designed to handle complex AI tasks such as real-time object recognition, scene detection, and more. This means that the camera can automatically adjust settings to capture the best possible photo, whether you’re shooting in low light or bright sunlight. Additionally, the NPU can enhance augmented reality experiences by providing more accurate and responsive tracking of objects and environments.
Performance and Efficiency
The Exynos 9820 is built on an 8nm LPP (Low Power Plus) FinFET process, which offers improved power efficiency and performance compared to previous generations. This means that devices powered by the Exynos 9820 can deliver faster performance while consuming less power, resulting in longer battery life.
The processor features an octa-core CPU with a tri-cluster architecture, consisting of two custom cores for ultimate processing power, two Cortex-A75 cores for optimal performance, and four Cortex-A55 cores for greater efficiency. This combination allows the Exynos 9820 to handle a wide range of tasks, from intensive gaming and multitasking to everyday activities like browsing the web and checking email.
In terms of graphics performance, the Exynos 9820 is equipped with the Mali-G76 MP12 GPU, which offers a significant boost in performance and efficiency compared to its predecessor. This makes it ideal for gaming and other graphics-intensive applications, providing smooth and immersive experiences.
Samsung will launch their new Galaxy S10 smartphones at a press conference in San Francisco on the 20th of February 2019. The Galaxy S10 is expected to come in multiple variants, including the standard S10, the larger S10 Plus, and a more affordable S10e. Each variant will offer different features and specifications to cater to a wide range of users.
In addition to the new processors, the Galaxy S10 series is rumored to feature a new design with a hole-punch display, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and an improved camera system. These enhancements, combined with the powerful Exynos 9820 and Snapdragon 855 processors, are expected to make the Galaxy S10 one of the most advanced smartphones on the market.
