The Robovie R2 robot developed by ATR (Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute) Intelligent Robotics & Communications Lab now has a baby brother, the Robovie mR2.
While being cuter than its older brother, the Robovie mR2 also has an iTouch for a heart. This feature allows you to control it and even send updates via a supplied wireless game pad. Check out the video after the jump.
Features and Specifications
The Robovie mR2 comes equipped with a super compact CCD camera, two microphones, and speakers for communication. Its animated eyes also add to its cuteness. Standing only 30 cm high and weighing approximately 2 kg (about 4.4 lbs), this little robot is perfect for desktop fun. The inclusion of an iTouch interface makes it incredibly user-friendly, allowing for seamless interaction and control. The wireless game pad further enhances the user experience, making it easy to send commands and updates to the robot.
The Robovie mR2’s compact size and lightweight design make it highly portable, allowing users to easily move it around their home or office. The robot’s CCD camera provides clear and sharp images, making it ideal for various applications, such as video calls or monitoring. The built-in microphones and speakers enable two-way communication, allowing users to interact with the robot in real-time.
Potential Applications and Future Prospects
ATR is still deciding whether to put the little robot into production, but you can follow updates via their Twitter account. The potential applications for the Robovie mR2 are vast and varied. For instance, it could be used in educational settings to engage students in interactive learning experiences. Its cute and approachable design makes it an excellent tool for teaching children about robotics and technology.
In addition to educational uses, the Robovie mR2 could also serve as a companion robot for the elderly or individuals with disabilities. Its ability to facilitate communication and provide companionship could significantly improve the quality of life for these individuals. Furthermore, the robot’s compact size and ease of use make it an ideal candidate for personal assistant tasks, such as setting reminders, playing music, or even controlling smart home devices.
As technology continues to advance, the possibilities for the Robovie mR2 are endless. Future iterations of the robot could include advanced AI capabilities, allowing it to learn and adapt to its user’s preferences and behaviors. This would make the Robovie mR2 an even more valuable tool in both personal and professional settings.
