Yesterday Apple whipped out the new MacBook Pro line and that line of notebooks has a new storage interface called Thunderbolt that is much faster than both FireWire and USB 2.0. Along with the new interface came the need for some new storage solutions.
A company called Promise Technology has unveiled a new line of storage solutions for Thunderbolt machines that are the first hardware RAID enclosures for the interface. The enclosures are in the Pegasus family and are offered in 4-bay and 6-bay varieties.
The 6-bay enclosure will handle up to 12TB of storage. The devices are optimized for video storage, streaming, and are Time machine compatible. The enclosures support RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. The enclosures will ship in Q2 and the pricing will be announced closer to the ship date.
