After being made available to preorder via Amazon, Facebook has now officially launched their new Oculus Go standalone VR headset at this years F8 developer conference which is currently underway. As you would expect CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the official announcement confirming that the Oculus Go VR headset is now available to purchase from a number of online retailers priced at $199.
To recap the Oculus Go VR headset offers a stand-alone VR viewer which does not require a connection to a PC or a mobile phone. The VR headset is equipped with a 5.5 inch display offering uses a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels or 1280 x 1440 pixels per eye and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and a 3.5mm audio jack for headphones. “Easily enter virtual reality with no PC or wires attached.1 Oculus Go is a standalone VR headset made to fit you. Designed with breathable fabrics, adjustable straps and our best lenses yet.”
Supplied with the headset is a handheld controller that features a touch sensitive navigation pad together with a trigger, home and back buttons for easy navigation. As well as announcing the availability of their new VR headset, Facebook also announced that their virtual reality development team is working on a new Oculus TV service that will provide video content from partners such as Hulu, Showtime, and ESPN.
