There’s some good news for the Nokia Lumia 520, Lumia 620 and Lumia 1020 owners residing in Canada. The folks at TELUS recently updated their software update page and stated that the above-mentioned devices will get the latest Windows Phone 8 Update 3 aka GDR3 update in January 2014. Nokia also named this update as Lumia Black, which will bring some Nokia specific enhancements and currently comes with Nokia Lumia 1520. Additionally, TELUS mentioned on the software update page that “expected dates are estimates and are subject to change.”
TELUS software page lists that the carrier is waiting for the software under the testing column, which means TELUS is yet to receive the software before they can try it out and begin the roll out process.
The Windows Phone 8 Update 3 (GDR3) comes with a bunch of new features and enhancements, with the most important one being the high-end hardware support such as quad-core processors and HD displays.
Other features include a Driving Mode that limits the number of notifications such as incoming calls and text messages, while you’re driving, improved internet sharing, support for custom ringtones for specific apps, improved multitasking and app switcher that gives users the ability to quickly close the applications. The latest update also comes with improve storage management, accessibility features, screen orientation lock, improved Bluetooth and a bunch of bug fixes and enhancements.
It’s safe to assume that other regions and carriers might roll out the GDR3 update during the similar time frame, that is early next year for the above-mentioned devices.
We’ll update you as soon as we have more information about the GDR3 roll out for other regions.
