There have been rumors about a new Nokia Smartphone for some time, although Nokia cannot release any new devices until next year, this is part of the agreement the company entered into with Microsoft when they sold their Lumia phone business to Microsoft.
Nokia has previously denied rumors of a new Nokia Smartphone, although now it would appear that we will see a new Nokia smartphone next year.
Nokia will not actually be manufacturing the device themselves like the did with previous handsets, instead the company will license their brand to companies to produce the new Nokia smartphone.
The news was recently confirmed by Nokia’s CEO Rajeev Suri in a recent interview, he said that the company would be looking at suitable partners for the project and that “We would simply design them and then make the brand name available to license.”
Nokia did this with their Nokia N1 Android tablet, which has ended being a popular device, the company didn’t make the tablet, instead they designed it and it was then sold under license with their manufacturing partner.
We suspect that the new Nokia smartphone will also use Google’s Android OS, and we could possibly see a number of new devices next year with the Nokia brand running Android.
